Snow Ranger
Description
Snow Ranger Crew Member (Shoveler)
Livingstone Landscaping Ltd. · Casual / part-time · On-call
Wage based on experience and performance · Reports to the Grounds/Snow Ranger Maintenance Manager
When the city locks up under ice and driveways disappear, someone has to cut a path. That’s the Snow Ranger. You are the early crew that keeps homes, businesses, and emergency access open — shovel, scraper, snow blower, and backpack blower in hand, starting as early as 4:00 a.m., in whatever the sky throws at you.
This is weather-dependent, on-call work. Priority shifts go to people who show up, stay reachable, and don’t treat “it’s snowing” as a surprise.
What you’ll actually do
- Clear snow and ice the right way: edges, doorways, garages, walkways — clean lines, not a half-job
- Run shovels, snow throwers, and backpack blowers without babysitting
- Help with truck walk-arounds, fueling, and pre/post-trip checks
- Park the truck properly (yes, that includes backing in)
- Use the two-way radio, fill out the paperwork, and speak up when something looks off
- Lift about 50 lbs, work uneven ground, and stay out for long days (10+ hours when the storm demands it)
You should have
- A valid Class 5F driver’s licence (public transit is not a plan — you have to get yourself there)
- The fitness and grit for outdoor labour in blizzards, sleet, ice, low visibility, noise, and traffic
- Enough English to communicate clearly on a crew
- A team attitude, an eye for detail, and the habit of asking before you guess
- Open availability. Dependable beats “maybe”
Shifts run whenever the weather does — nights, weekends, holidays included. You’ll work near moving vehicles and equipment. Fit testing may be required. Successful candidates complete a Police Information Check (PIC).
Reasonable accommodations can be made so people with disabilities can perform the essential functions of the job.
If you like being the reason someone’s door actually opens after a storm, this is the crew.
